ANSWERS:
- Does a filter pump have to be used with my Intex above ground pool?
Yes, for hygienic purposes we recommend a filter pump be used with all Intex 8' or larger above ground pools. Top
- Does the pump keep the pool walls and bottom clean?
No. With proper chemicals and filter cartridge replacement, the pump will keep the pool clean from suspended water particles. A pool vacuum should be used to clean the bottom of the pool. You can order the Intex pool vacuum to clean your pool however it will not pick up fine dust or sand that sinks to the bottom. Additionally the Intex Krystal Clean POOLWATER Saltwater System and maintenance kits will keep your pool clean from algae and bacteria. Depending on the local characteristics of your water condition, it may be desirable to add water softeners, clarifiers, or algaecides. Top
- Do you recommend sand filters for Intex AGPs?
No, we do not! For the above ground pools, cartridge filters work best and are much easier to maintain. Sand filters are better used in pond or waterfall applications where filtering out very small particles is not necessary. Top
- Can we use the pool while the filter pump is operating? Is it safe?
No, due to various local, state, national and international standards, the filter pump is not to be operating if pool is in use and/or occupied, although it is safe and has complied with UL, CSA and EN safety standards. Top
- Can the pump be used to empty the pool?
No. The pump is not designed for this purpose. Top
- What is the best way to store the filter pump and/or the saltwater pool system for the winter?
Remove and clean with fresh water and dry all components including hoses. Coat the seals, O-Rings and washers with petroleum jelly (see Owners Manual for detailed instructions). Store the device and accessories in a dry, indoor storage area. The original packaging can be used for storage. Top
- What is your suggestion on pump maintenance?
Occasionally, petroleum jelly may be applied to the O-Ring located underneath the top filter cover to minimize seal cracking. Check hoses for leaks and replace if needed. Also make sure you've cleaned or replaced filter cartridges as recommended in the Owners Manual. Top
- How often should the filter cartridge be replaced?
Depending on usage and water conditions, it is recommended that the cartridges be replaced at maximum 2 week intervals. The filter cartridge should be removed and checked at least once a week. It can be partially cleaned by rinsing off with a garden hose and brush. If it still appears to be dirty, it should be replaced immediately. Top
- Does the pump run on AC or DC power?
110-120V or 12V (depending on models), single phase AC. (Which is normal household electricity). Top
- Does the pump meet recognized electrical standards?
Yes, depending on the model, Intex filter pumps meet UL, CSA, EN and AS/NZ Standards. Top
- Do you need to purchase a GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) outlet?
Yes. The GFCI should be installed by a licensed electrician. Top
- What is a GFCI outlet?
GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) is a device that protects people from serious injury due to electric shock. GFCIs constantly monitor electricity flowing in the circuitry. If the electricity flowing into the circuit differs by even a slight amount from that returning, the GFCI will quickly shut off the current flowing through that circuit. The advantage of using a GFCI is that they can detect even small variations in the amount of current flowing through an electrical product, even amounts too small to activate a fuse or circuit breaker. GFCIs work quickly, so they can help protect consumers from severe electric shocks and electrocution while most common circuit breakers take far too long to open the circuit stopping the flow of electricity. - How long does it take for the water to be completely pumped through the filter?
For 8' to 12'x36" pools it is recommended that the pump run approximately 2 to 5 hours daily, 15' to 18'x52" - 3 to 6 hours, and the 24 5 to 7 hours daily. Always use the pump recommended for the various pool sizes. Top
- How many amps does it take to operate the filter pump?
Intex filter pumps draw 0.35 to 4.0 amps of current depending on size. Larger gallons per hour flow equal more power consumption. Normal households have 15 amp outlets. Top
- What is the life of the filter pump?
Estimated filter pump life is 2,000 hours, which is about 3 summer seasons of normal usage. Top
- Can I hook up a vacuum to the pump?
Yes, the pump is designed to be used with Intex vacuum system (#58947/58948/ 18947/18948) only. (Can only be used with pumps 635, 637, 633) Top
- How do I know if I have a truly defective pump and not just an oversight on my part?

No. Mainly because of the electrical connections location to the water chamber, and the fact that improper repair may result in electrocution, injury and/or death. Top

Keep all debris out of pool (keep covered) with a debris pool cover, and maintain the proper pH level. Top
- The water flow is not as strong as it used to be, why?
See Trouble Shooting Guide in the Owners Manual. Also check the filter cartridge. If it is dirty the water flow will be much less powerful. Replace the cartridge. Also, check the hoses for any pinholes causing water leakage. The hose clamps may also be loose. Top
- Can the filter pump be purchased from Intex if not available from a local retailer?

- Can the filter pump be operated when a cover is on the pool?
Yes, except model M1 which needs to be checked frequently. For Model M1, the filter pump and hook assembly should be removed from the pool before placing the cover on. Top
- On Model 603, Model 637, Model 635 and Model 633 should I turn on the pump before releasing the air pressure?
No. After the pool has been filled with water, air can be released from the top of the filter chamber and then the motor can be turned on. See instruction in Owner's Manual. Top
- Should the plunger valves on Model 635 and Model 633 pump be closed when the pump is not running?
No, however the valves need to be closed for filter cartridge replacement. Top
- Can I upgrade my Model 603 or Model 637 filter pump to the larger Model 635 or Model 633 filter pump to fit my 8', 10', 12', 15' or 16 pool?
Intex has hose adaptors available that allow consumers to adapt the original smaller connectors on the pool to the larger Intex pump models. If you are using Model 635 or 633 you will need (2) Hose adaptors, ID# 10722. These parts can be ordered from www.intexstore.com, or by calling (800) 234-6839 Intex Consumer Service. Top
- Can I disassemble the motor housing to clean the inside?
No. This will invalidate the filter pump warranty and Intex will not be responsible for any effect or cause that might result from opening the motor housing for any reason. Personal injury may result if reassembly is done improperly. Top

- What should I do if small metal items go into the filter pump?
Sharp objects and jewelry like metal wristwatches, bracelets, necklaces, rings, earrings, and hairpins should be taken off before entering the pool. These types of sharp objects can puncture the PVC ring, and may get suck into the filter pump, causing further damage. If these items are stuck in the filter pump, try to follow the cartridge cleaning instructions from the manual. Take the cartridge off, making sure to shake the items out from the inlet by holding the filter pump upside down. Top
- What should I do if I'm experiencing some difficulty connecting the hoses onto the black protruding hose connectors?
Due to variations in ambient temperature, PVC parts may become stiffer or softer. To facilitate the connection of the hoses to the black protruding hose connectors on the pool wall, you may use soapy water solution (mix 6 drops of dish detergent in 1/2 a cup of water) to lubricate the hoses and the black protruding hose connectors. Continue installation per owner's manual. Do not use lubricants such as machine oil, industrial oil, or house grease. Top
